Jobbit vs Fergus (2026)

Updated 10 October 2026

Short answer

Fergus is the job-costing specialist: supplier price books, purchase orders, job phases and margin tracking, priced per user. Jobbit is the simpler, flat-priced option that's free to start, built for getting quotes accepted, jobs done and invoices paid quickly.

If knowing your margin on every job is the whole game, choose Fergus. If you mostly need to quote fast, get deposits and get paid, Jobbit does that for a fraction of the cost.

Fergus prices are its published "from" prices per user, plus GST. Fergus also has cheaper timesheet-only users and day-rate contractor users, and a custom Enterprise plan for 10+ staff. When we checked, it was also advertising an introductory discount until December. Jobbit Starter covers up to 10 staff and 50 jobs a month; Pro is unlimited.

Where Fergus wins

  • Real job costing: materials and labour tracked against every job.
  • Supplier price books and purchase orders, so quotes use current trade prices.
  • Job phases for bigger, multi-stage work.
  • MYOB sync, as well as Xero and QuickBooks.
  • More payment options for customers, including direct debit and Afterpay.

Where Jobbit wins

  • Price: flat plans and a free tier, instead of per-user pricing.
  • Simplicity: quote, deposit, job, invoice and payment without setting up costing.
  • Deposits paid by card the moment the customer accepts the quote.
  • SMS included, and no Jobbit fee on card payments.

The honest recommendation

  • Bigger jobs where margin matters (renovations, commercial fit-outs): Fergus.
  • Mostly call-outs and smaller jobs: Jobbit. Job costing is overkill when the job's done in a morning.
  • Tight budget or growing headcount: Jobbit's flat price.

FAQ

Is Fergus or Jobbit cheaper?

Jobbit. Fergus is priced per user, from $53 (Essentials) or $77 (Professional) a month plus GST. Jobbit is a flat $29.99 a month for up to 10 staff and 50 jobs, or $79.99 for unlimited jobs and staff, and there's a free plan.

What's Fergus best at?

Job costing. On the Professional plan you get job phases, purchase orders, tiered pricing and automatic supplier price books, so you can see what each job really cost against what you charged.

Is Fergus only for plumbers?

No. It was founded by a plumber and is popular with plumbers, but electricians, builders, HVAC and roofing businesses use it too.

Does Jobbit do job costing?

Not in detail. Jobbit tracks what you've quoted, invoiced and been paid, and its AI chat can tell you how a month went, but it doesn't track materials and labour costs against each job the way Fergus does.
